Shop Counter Sales Assistant
Main Duties:
- Ensuring the highest level of customer satisfaction by delivering and where possible, exceeding customers' expectations
- Counter sales
- Maximising sales and margin
- Monitoring and ordering stock within the company's timescale criteria, ensuring good rotation of stock
- Merchandising
Requirements:
- Customer service skills essential
- Sales and negotiation skills essential
- Knowledge of building products desirable
- Communication skills
- Literacy/Numeracy skills
- Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
Hours:
- 40 hours per week Monday to Saturday between 7.30am and 5.30pm (Saturdays 8.00-5.00) Some Sunday mornings on a trial basis
- Day off in lieu of Saturday working, double time for Sunday
Job Description:
Main Purpose of Job
To ensure that the branch delivers excellent customer service by serving customers efficiently, politely and profitably, and managing stock as part of a friendly sales and customer focused team.
Relationships:
- Responsible to: Assistant Branch Manager, reporting on a daily basis to Shop Counter Supervisor
- Liaison with: Customers, suppliers, branch staff at own and other branches, managers, admin support and customer service staff
Main Tasks of Job
Counter sales
- Greeting and serving customers
- Identifying customers' requirements, advising on product use, selling the benefits, overcoming objections and making sales
- Proactively maximising margin
- Proactively recommending add-on sales and promoting special offers
- Processing orders and sales on the computer system
- Key cutting
Telephone sales
- Taking and processing customers telephones orders, in the same way as for counter sales
- Cold calling existing customers with suggested orders etc.
Customer relations
- Taking incoming general telephone calls
- Resolving queries
- Resolving account queries
Stock control
- Monitoring stock levels
- Ordering stock within the company's timescale criteria, raising purchase orders
- Negotiating best deals with suppliers
- Receiving stock on to the computer system
- Putting stock away
- Allocating bin numbers
- Liaising with stock & systems re pricing of new stock
- Liaising with purchase ledger to resolve queries
Merchandising
- Ensuring shelf labelling is up to date
- Maintaining stock displays
- Rotating stock
General
- General housekeeping to keep the branch clean tidy
- Maintaining change levels in the till
- Maintaining till rolls, printer and card machine paper
- Liaising with other branches
- Picking goods for delivery
